I don’t even know where to start.This was the story of Sonya and Trav, two people who had all the reasons in the world not to fall in love but did so anyway. I’m afraid to tell you any more about the actual plot, because I might end up in spoilerland, and this story is just too good to do that to y’all.Okay so, the character development. Ben Travis - Trav - is so complex. I love how the authors painted him as a charmer at first, and then they just kept adding detail after detail until finally, it was hard to remember that Trav is a fictional person.And the same goes for Sonya, only she’s painted as the One Who is Well-Put-Together. She has a list for everything, even when facing serious letdown from a previous partner. She is seemingly unstoppable. That is, until Trav.This is a book that I know I will read over and over again. I was waiting for this book to be released, and it was well worth the wait. Highly, highly recommend. The Exception was a wonderful read. It had enchanting characters, a great plot, emotional depth, and combustible chemistry. These characters were relatable and flawed. I loved both Sonya and Trav's personal growth throughout the story. Though they seemed to be complete opposites, their personalities complimented one another well. They made each other embrace potential and love. Their banter was fun and flirty and it definitely bolstered their physical connection. Let's just say they came together with intensity and passion.This book is more than just a workplace, enemies to lovers romance. It touched on mental health issues, complex family dynamics, found family, and learning to bend not break. The side characters added color and texture to the story. They enhanced my investment into Sonya and Trav's HEA. It was a beautifully written story that deftly balanced vulnerability, tough topics, and joy.
